5 Paragraph Essay Model

Five Paragraph In-Class Essay Outline Model

**The following is a Model or Template for an essay which examines the three components Mark Twain asked all late 19th Century and future 20th Century American authors to include in their American Romantic Literature. The format, however, namely The Roman Numerals, Capital Letters, Arabic Numbers, etc. should be used for all 5-6 paragraph, multi-discipline essays across the curriculum:

Title (No Punctuation)

  1. Thesis Statement(s) Introduction to Topic at hand. Your intro. Should be followed by your 3 reasons that you will relegate a paragraph for each:

    2. Reason #2 (better reason) i.e. Man’s Inhumanity
    3. Reason #3 (best reason) i.e. Providence

C.C.S. (Concluding Sentence) As does every paragraph, the intro. contains a concluding sentence that ends the first and transitions into the second or First Body Paragraph.

  2. Example   “………………………….” (“  “  “)
  3. Example   “………………………….”  (“ “ “ )
  4. ** Example  “………………………”  (“ “ “ )

C.C.S. Concluding Sentence.

V. Thesis Statement for Conclusion Paragraph : Conclude your essay by reiterating your theme or Main Thesis more theoretically than you have to this point. No need to “Repeat Anything” here. “Go outside” of your previously mentioned material here and bring in related items/issues from the “Larger World”. Conclude Convincingly!
