COVID-19 RESPONSE & UPDATES

Last updated: May 11, 2020

The health and safety of our Salesian High School community are of utmost importance. We are staying apprised of recommendations from the Archdiocese of New York, as well as government and health officials regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19). We have formed a Task Force Response Team to ensure we remain proactive in addressing these challenging, ever-evolving times. We keep this webpage updated with information as it pertains to Salesian High School to help with the flow of communication to our community. We continue to send email updates as this situation develops.

We realize that this situation is impacting our entire community in many ways. Please know our faculty and staff are committed to supporting our students, parents and alumni during this time. We can be reached through email or phone to answer any questions. The COVID-19 pandemic presents an opportunity for us learn together, support together and pray together. When this is behind us, we will return to our beloved campus and be stronger and closer than ever.

CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENT

The Salesian High School campus remains closed, as it has been since Friday, March 13, 2020. The campus will continue to be closed for the foreseeable future. Governor Cuomo announced on May 1, 2020, that students would not return to their campuses for in-person classes for the remainder of this school year.

However, Salesian High School continues to offer its educational program through our Distance Learning Program, described in the following section. Teachers are engaged in education with your sons each day, beginning with Morning Prayer and the Good Morning at 8:15 a.m. All students are expected to be present and participating each day.

The last day of class for our seniors will be Wednesday, May 20, 2020. Underclassmen classes will continue until Tuesday, June 16, 2020.

Stay strong, Eagles!

DISTANCE LEARNING PLAN:
We have ensured the continuity of learning by moving to virtual school. Great teachers make great online teachers. The strengths of our exceptional teachers are, in part, built on their ability to relate to students and create a true classroom community. That also carries over into the online classroom.

  • All classes are being held online and all students are expected to participate.
  • Classes are conducted through Google Classroom and instruction is given and students are provided assignments, assessments and tests.
  • We will continue using our 8-day schedule with 30- and 45-minute blocks.
