Method
#1: Using the Science
Resource Center.
Although you can use the Student Resource Center for science
research, the Science Resource Center
has more resources.

The easiest way to use this database is to choose a link from the Home
Page topic list, like Biology (circled in violet above).
You can also type search terms into the Search box at the top of the page (circled in red above).

Shown above is the results screen for a search on global warming.
It returns articles from reference
books (note the symbols for reading level: red triangles, green
circles, yellow boxes),
magazine articles, articles
from academic journals, newspaper articles, multimedia pictures, diagrams,
photographs, and video,
and links to approved web sites.
Clicking on any title will take you to the full text article or
multimedia file.

You can also search for famous men and women of science using the Person Search.
Click the Person Search button
at the top of the screen and type in a name.
You can also search for a person using just Biographical Facts, like his or her
place and time of birth.

You can also search through back issues of science magazines.
Click the Publication Search
button at the top of the screen (circled
in red above).
Search for a publication and then Select
the Year (circled in green above) and
click the link for an Issue (circled in orange above).

You can take advantage of the Science Resource Center's Toolbox, circled on the web page
masthead shown above.

Click
on any of the links shown above.
Science-related Tools includes
links to charts and diagrams for all high school science subjects.
The Research Guide includes
help for science projects and lab reports.
Research Tools includes
information for term papers and reports for any high school subject,
for example, how to write a Thesis Statement.
Search Tips will help you find
information on the Salesian High Library's Gale Cengage and other
databases.
Guided Tour is an online
animated guide to using the Science Resource Center.

Method #2: Using Student Resource
Center.

On
the Student Resource Center home page, click on the Topic Trees link (circled above)
on the Search Types ribbon at
the top of the screen.

Click
on the Science button
(circled above).

Click
on any link from
the list, for example, Human genome
(circled above).

The
Results screen is shown
above.
On the first tab, you are presented with articles
from reference books.
Look especially
at
the right for Critical Essays.
The second tab has magazine
articles, the third tab has articles from academic journals, the fourth tab
includes newspaper articles.
The last tab includes multimedia
files like photographs and video clips.

Method #3: Using Ebsco's Science Reference
Center.

Click
on the Ebsco Host
banner on the Salesian High Library's Online
Databases page as shown above.
Type in the Ebsco Databases password if you
are working from home.

Click on the Science Reference Center
link (circled in red above).

Type in your search terms in the Find
text book (shown circled in red
above).

The Results screen is shown
above.
You can scroll through all of the results or use the links to see only Periodical articles, Reference Book articles, etc.
Click on any article title to see the full text.

Especially valuable are the Videos.
Each video opens into Windows Media Player.
