#1: Health & Wellness Resource Center - #2: Health Reference Center Academic


Method #1: Using the Health & Wellness Resource Center.
 

Click on the NOVELNY banner on the Salesian High Library's Online Databases web pages as shown above.
Type in the NOVEL databases password if you are working from home.
 

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the link to the
Health and Wellness Resource Center and Alternative Health Module
 

This is the Health & Wellness Resource Center Home page.
You can, first of all, type in search terms, for example, lung cancer, as shown above,  into the Search text box at the left.
 

This is your Results Screen.
You can click on different tabs for articles from reference Books & Fact Sheets, Magazines and professional Journals,
Drug & Herbal Remedy descriptions, Pamphlets, Videos, and Newspaper articles.
Click on any link for the full text of these articles.
 

Click on the Diseases & Conditions tab (circled in red above) for an alphabetical list
of information from the Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine.
Click on any disease or condition for more information.
 

Click on the Drugs & Herbal Remedies tab (circled in red above) to search for information
about drug therapies, as in the example above for the drug ibuprofen.
  
Other tabs contain the following information...
Alternative Medicine: Find information on a specific medical condition or disease from the Gale Encyclopedia of Alternative Medicine.
Directory: search for information about health agencies, organizations, schools, hospitals and health care facilities, programs and special care facilities.
Dictionary: search through the Mosby's Medical, Nursing and Allied Health Dictionary.
Trusted Sites: find a list of web sites on on health-related topics.
Health Assessment: find a list of web sites on
assessing or enhancing your own health.

Method #2: Using the Health Reference Center Academic.
 

Click on the NOVELNY banner on the Salesian High Library's Online Databases web pages as shown above.
Type in the NOVEL databases password if you are working from home.
 


At the top of the page and click on the link to the Health Reference Center Academic.
 

The Health Reference Center Academic main page should remind you of Google.
However, you will be searching through full text articles from nursing journals, personal health information sources,
and the Health Reference Center from InfoTrac, an important and popular database.
In the example above, type search terms, like lung cancer, into the Search text box.
It's always the best idea to choose Subject Search from the choices below the Search text box.
 

The Results page is shown above.
On the first tab, you are presented with
articles from Academic JournalsThe second tab has Magazine articles,
the third tab has articles from reference Books, the fourth tab includes newspaper articles.
The last tab includes Multimedia files including broadcast transcripts and audio files.
Because you choose to do a Subject Search, at the left of the screen are links to related subjects.
Sometimes what you're really looking for will show up in the Related Subjects list.
Click on any link in this list for a new Results page.
