#1: World and I School - #2: The SIRS Knowledge Source - #3: The Student Resource Center


Method #1: Using the World and I School.com.
The World and I School database contains the content of all of the issues of World and I School magazine.
Click on the World and I School.com banner on the SHS Library's Databases page.
 

This is the database main screen.
You can type search terms into the Search box at the upper right.
Note the changing pictures from the World Gallery, which is a great source of information about different cultures.
 

You can choose one of the special World Gallery presentations, The Colosseum of Rome, for example.
You can also choose a country from the list at the left.
The information you will find includes photographs, maps, demographics, and statistics.
 

  On the World and I School main page, scroll down to the Special Collections menu at the left.
Helpful links include Biographies, Ceremonies/Festivities, Craft & Design, Peoples of the World,
Traveling the Globe, and Worldwide Folktales.
 

There is also a special Spanish curriculum site.  Choose Spanish from the top menu.
At the right hand side there are links to information on Latin American Cultures.
 

Use the menu at the right for video clips, photos, and much more information, like festivals and holidays.

Method #2: Using The SIRS Knowledge Source.
The SIRS Knowledge Source is an excellent source of information about different countries and cultures.
Click on the SIRS Knowledge Source banner on the SHS Library's Databases page.
  

Click on the Database Features tab at the top of the page (shown circled in red above).
 

Great maps can be found in the far left column (SIRS Researcher) at the Maps of the World link.
 

Click on any icon to be taken to a list of maps in color or black-and-white outline.
The maps can be printed or downloaded for use in computer projects like PowerPoint presentations.
 

Information about foreign countries can be found in two places:
In the far left column (SIRS Researcher) at the World Almanac Excerpts link,
and in the center column (SIRS Government Reporter) at the Country Profiles link.

Method #3: Using the Student Resource Center.
The Student Resource Center is an excellent source of multimedia information about different countries and cultures.
Click on the SIRS Knowledge Source banner on the SHS Library's Databases page.
 

In the Basic Search box at the left hand side of the page type in a country, like brazil (shown circled above in red)
and only check the Multimedia check box (shown circled in violet above).
  

Click on the Multimedia tab for a list of
maps, flags, seals, and other multimedia files useful for foreign language class projects.
