#1: Bloom's Literary Reference Online - #2: The Student Resource Center - #3: The Twayne Authors Series

Method #1: Using Bloom's Literary Reference Online.
From the database  Home page, you can now...
1. Type an author's name or the title of a book into the Search box
2. Click the BROWSE AUTHORS link to search an alphabetical list of authors
3. Click the BROWSE WORKS link to search and alphabetical list of books
4. Under TOPICS & THEMES, browse by theme, like Transcendentalism, or topic, like Mythological Figures
5. Under IMAGES & VIDEOS, browse a collection of drawings, photographs, and video clips

 
This is an example of a Search RESULTS screen...
Results are divided into categories and placed on different pages
Navagate to these pages by clicking on the tabs; the first tab includes ALL results
Results are divided into "Biographies," "Overviews and Synopses" (summaries of the author's books),
"Analyses and Criticism" (essays of literary criticism), "Topics and Themes" (topics found int the author's books),
and "Images and Videos" of the author and/or his books

Method #2: Using the Student Resource Center for information about an author.
 

On the Student Resource Center home page, click on the Topic Trees link (circled above)
on the Search Types ribbon at the top of the screen.
 

Click on the Literature button (circled above).
 

Click on the Authors link (circled above).
 

Click on any author link from the list, for example, James Baldwin (circled above).
 

The Results screen is shown above.
On the first tab, you are presented with
articles from reference books.  Look especially at the right for Critical Essays.
The second tab has magazine articles, the third tab has articles from academic journals, the fourth tab includes newspaper articles.
The last tab includes multimedia files like photographs and video clips.
  

Click on any article link for the full text.
Other ways of using these directions...
After choosing the Literature Topic Tree button (step 2 above),
Choose the Literary Works link to research a book like Their Eyes Were Watching God
Choose the Literary Topics, Genres, and Movements link to research literary movements like the Harlem Renaissance

Method #3: Using The Twayne Authors Series for information about an author.


Click on the NOVELNY banner on the Salesian High Library's Online Databases web pages as shown above.
Type in the NOVEL databases password if you are working from home.
 

Scroll down and find the link for The Twayne Authors Series.  Click on the link.
 

Click on the link Authors A-Z.
 

Use the alphabet at the top of the page to choose an author from the alphabetical list, Sherwood Anderson (circled above) for example.
 

Click on links to read the different chapters of this book of literary criticism.
Use the menu at the left to jump to the Preface to the book, a Chronology of Anderson's life, a list of his Works,
a Bibliography, and directions for citing this research on your Works Cited page.
