Visit by
Fr. Dave Moreno, SDB
Civil War Reenactor

May 12, 2005

On Thursday, May 12, 2005, Salesian priest Fr. Dave Moreno visited the History Club of Salesian High School.  Fr. Dave has been a Civil War reenactor for seven years.  He plays the part of the chaplain for a New Jersey regiment.  He described how he came to be a reenactor and talked to the students about events leading up to the Civil War. He also talked to them about his authentic, although replica, uniform.  Most striking of all was the point he made, that reenactors try to keep the memory of the Civil War alive, a time when Americans killed their fellow Americans, so that this would never happen again.
Fr. Dave's performance was funded by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. The History Club is moderated by Dr. Frank Veteri, chairman of the Salesian High Social Studies department.

Fr. Dave was an excellent speaker and kept the students very interested!

The Salesian High History Club posed with Fr. Dave after his talk.
