Italian Courses Description


Italian I
This course focuses on oral communication and basic grammar, which is mastered through oral communication. Throughout the class, the Mastery learning technique is utilized. Basic phrases dealing with topics such as the weather, introductions, family life, geography, feelings, days, months, numbers, colors, and food are learned. Italian culture is also emphasized through project work. Reading comprehension is introduced. This course ends in a school examination.

Italian II
In this course, students continue with oral communication using Mastery learning techniques. Grammar becomes more advanced as students utilize the past tense. Reading comprehension is further emphasized through dialogues and short passages. Written assignments are also increased. This class culminates in a school examination.

Prerequisite: To enroll in this course, a student must have successfully completed Italian I.

Italian III
In this course, advanced grammar is emphasized with a concentration on the future, conditional and the subjunctive tenses. Students increase their vocabulary extensively through broader reading and writing activities in preparation for the Regents exam. The students enrolled in this class must take the Italian Regents Examination.
To register for this class, a student must have completed Italian I and II.

REGENTS EXAM in Italian
The Regents exams, three hours in length, are given in Italian and measure a student's skills in Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.
