Excel Practice Projects
Project 1
You have $500.00 for a SuperBowl Party.
Go to the Stop & Shop web site for information about party platters; click here.  From the menu at the top choose "Easy Entertaining."
You must choose 15 and only 15 items from the nine Stop & Shop Easy Entertaining categories.
Begin Project 1 by typing in the data as shown in the example below...

For Rows 4 through 18 type in the amount of each item you wish to purchase in Column B.
In Column D write a formula to multiply Column B by Column C.
Use the Auto Sum button to add up all your purchases in Cell D19.
Make this total as close to $500.00 as possible without going over.  Change the numbers in Column B to do this.
Format your spreadsheet.  Use the example below for ideas...

Print your project twice.  First normally and then in Formula View.
To print normally, use Page Setup with the settings shown below.  Make the changes shown in the red circles.

Add your name using a Footer.  Include your Section.
Print your project again in Formula view.  Click Tools on the Menu Bar, then Options.  Add a check to the Formulas box as shown below...

PRINT FORMULA VIEW AS LANDSCAPE.  Use Page Setup to switch to LANDSCAPE before printing.  Staple both pages back to back.

Plan a Road Trip to Florida
Use MapQuest to calculate the distance between Salesian High School  and Miami, Florida.  Click here.
Use Salesian High, 148 E Main Street, New Rochelle, NY 10801 as the starting destination.
Use Red Roof Inn Miami, 3401 NW 42nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33142 as the ending destination.
(This hotel is sometimes listed as 3401 NW LeJeune Road.)
Click here to use Hotels.com to get your room rate.  You will be at this hotel for 6 days.
Drive to Florida in a Hyundai Accent.
Find how how many highway miles to the gallon a Hyundai Accent gets.  Click here.
Use this web page to calculate the average cost of gas per gallon. Write a formula to find the average using your highest driving area and your lowest driving area.
Use Orbitz to get the average price of renting a car per day.  Click here.  You will need the car for 12 days.
Create an Excel spreadsheet to calculate the cost of this trip.
In your spreadsheet , as much as possible, use ONLY CELL NAMES in your formulas.
Use as few numbers in your formulas and functions as you can!
