Salesian High School

Salesian High's First
Student Exchange Program
On Thursday, October 18, Salesian High School welcomed ten students and three representatives from Salesian College of Farnborough, England, as part of a ten-day international exchange program, announced Salesian Principal John Flaherty.
This is the first-ever international student exchange program at Salesian High School and the realization of a dream that began to germinate three year ago, said Fr. Patrick Angelucci, SDB, ’64, director/president.  This program will demonstrate that despite great distances and different cultures, the two schools are part of one family, said Fr. Patrick.
The families of the Salesian High School students selected to go to England in February are hosting the English students. I’m highly excited, said Farnborough student athlete Dominic Lion.  America is so built up in our television and media, and this program will really show us what high school in the States is all about.  Accompanying the students from England are the school’s headmaster Patrick Wilson, his wife Helen, and the dean of the upper sixth form, Richard Maher.
Mr. Wilson and Mr. Flaherty have put together an educational experience that includes attending classes, trips to Philadelphia, West Point, Mystic Seaport, the Thomas Paine cottage, a private tour of New York City conducted by the New York Historical Society, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Museum of Natural History, and a Broadway show.
The exchange students returned to England on October 28, and the Salesian H. S. students will depart for their experience on February 7, 2008.   I can’t wait to go to England and see how Don Bosco’s message is interpreted and manifested in England, said Salesian senior Arton Djonbalaj '08

Upon arrival, Farnborough and Salesian High students in the exchange program pose with Farnborough headmaster, Mr. Patrick  Wilson, at the Salesian High main entrance.

Farnborough and Salesian High students involved in the exchange program spent one evening at New Roc City's entertainments.

Farnborough students and their chaperones spent a day visiting lower Manhattan, including the Statue of Liberty (above left), Ellis Island, Ground Zero, St. Paul's Church, Trinity Church, Wall Street, Federal Hall, and South Street Seaport (above right).
